Line up time prompts

These playtime flashcards provide a visual prompt for children who struggle with the transition between playtime and end of play. Use the two and five minute warning cards to inform the child that the end of playtime is approaching. On hearing the bell/whistle, produce the line up time card. It should be the childs role to hold on to the cards and return them to an agreed place within the classroom. This provides the child with a distraction and a sense of pride in their job. Ensure the whole procedure is carried out in an over enthusiastic manner with plenty of positive praise. If the child does not enjoy their job the system will not work. Also provided in the set is a "STOP" card, this is for use when children are behaving in a manner that is endangering the safety of themselves or others. A loud whistle blast should accompany the visual aid and all children should be briefed on its meaning and understand what they should do.
